If you get a Mohawk hairdo, is it standard that you will need some gel or other to make the hair stand up?

Personally, I have straight hair but it is fine, not coarse. My 11 year old son says he wants a Mohawk so he can be a radical dude, Man! I have reservations about that actually. But just thinking it through, I'm wondering how disappointed he would be if he woke up every day mostly bald but with his Mohawk stripe down the middle looking all limp and flat because like me, he has thin hair. Wouldn't it take a lot of care and upkeep with gels or mouse or hairspray or something?

Do people who get Mohawks live to regret it? Doesn't it look a little weird when you change your mind AFTER a Mohawk and have to wait a few months for the hair you shaved to grow back in?

What are the pros and cons to getting a Mohawk. I want my son to think this through himself too but any experience or knowledge you may have to share would be helpful.

the %26quot;in%26quot; thing now is the %26quot;faux-hawk%26quot;. it's like a mohawk, but you don't go bald on the sides, and the top isn't radically longer. if you aren't sure that he is sure, ask him to try this first. here's a link http://www.niata.net/cropshop/faux_hawk/

yes, you *must* use product with either style. no product = no mohawk. even coarse hair will no stand up without product. gels are out; glues are in. they work better and last longer. i'm not talking elmer's lol. paul mitchel xtg; regis molding glue; even bedhead mohawk gel (it's not really so much of a gel). they shampoo out; not glue-like perse.

my nephew rocked the fauxhawk for a while. he has curly hair, so it really didn't work too well. plus he's lazy and didn't put product in it daily, so it didn't get spiked very often. with the fauxhawk, they get to try it out and don't really regret it, since they can just get the excess top hair cut off and get a %26quot;normal%26quot; cut if they just can't/won't style it. explain to him the deal and your concerns. kids will usually cave. and if you promise him some colored hair glue, he will most definitely cave http://www.sallybeauty.com/Spike+It+Hair鈥?/a>

good luck!

You have to get the dressing. Mohawk dressing. It is scary looking on.

of course you need gel, you need LOTS of gel and hairspray to keep it standing up. a REAL mohawk is when you shave the sides of your head and only keep a middle strip..usually its very long and you need to spike it up with something.
