No, this is the permanant way.. but if you don't unselect the text, it will keep changing, yes..
i recommend you download gimp, its much better than paint and its free- you just need to devote a little time to learning it.

Up at the top there should be the tool bar. Click on view then click on Text Toolbar then highlight what you wrote. I'm not sure that'll work though because I might have a different version than you.
